The Music Academy of the West kicks off its 8-week long summer concert series in Santa Barbara on June 20th. Over 200 events (and ½ of them are free) will connect the community with the 150 gifted youngsters who descend on Santa Barbara for a summer of music, practice and connections. These “Academy Fellows” are awarded full scholarships for tuition, room and board, … based on an audition and proven talent … so, the quality of the music is normally very high.
Orchestral and chamber music will be the main fare, although an opera – The Barber of Seville – will also be presented. In addition to the faculty and gifted students, the recitals and concerts will also present guest conductors and artists from New York and around the country.
Most of the events will be held at Hahn Hall (on the grounds of the Miraflores estate), and tickets are available at the Musicacademy.org website. Hahn Hall was recently refurbished and the acoustical qualities of the hall have received great reviews.
Here is a one minute video with a number of great views of Hahn Hall and the rest of the Academy of the West facilities and grounds.
If you also visit Santa Barbara during the Summer Solstice Festival (June 24 – 26), you can join the other 100,000 expected festival goers for three days of other music, art, food and dance.
So, if these festivals fit into your Central Coast vacation plans, be sure to book your tickets soon!
