Getting To and Around California Gets Better!
California travel is getting more fun! Check out the latest news:
Virgin America. This new airline will begin offering daily service from San Francisco to New York's JFK Airport and Los Angeles’ LAX beginning on August 8, 2007. Service between Los Angeles and New York will follow later that month (beginning on August 29), and more routes will be added this fall – between San Francisco and Washington D.C. (September 26); between San Francisco and Las Vegas (October 10); and between Los Angeles and Washington D.C. (October 24).
In addition to competitive pricing, coach seats will provide 32 inches of legroom (an inch or two more than the economy-class industry standard), a 110-volt electric outlet (to power your laptop or other electronic device) and a 9-inch, seatback touchscreen (allowing entertainment options including 25 on-demand movies for $8; several free TV channels; free interactive Google maps; and in-flight meal ordering). You can even send instant messages to fellow passengers who agree to receive them!
Please visit the Virgin America site for further information.
GrandLuxe Rail California Travel. In an effort to introduce luxury train travel to a broader market, between November 2007 and January 2008, GrandLuxe Rail Journeys (formerly American Orient Express) will roll out its new GrandLuxe Limited service. Frequent departures will be offered on Amtrak routes between Chicago and the San Francisco Bay Area and between Chicago and Los Angeles, and limited departures will be available for travel from Denver to the Bay Area. Made possible by a new partnership between GrandLuxe Rail Journeys and Amtrak, the premium service is expected to include five-course dinners, personal butler service and luxurious sleeping accommodations in cars appointed with elegant vintage furnishings. Please visit the GrandLuxe Rail site for all the details.
GoCars in San Diego and San Francisco. If you’re looking for a way to make your California travel within either of these two coastalcities fun and funky, you should definitely check out what GoCars! has to offer. Billed as “the cure for the common tour,” these kind of goofy-looking bright yellow half-cars have three wheels and only go 30 miles an hour. The cool factor is that they’re equipped with a self-guided GPS tour, allowing you to drive around and check out the tourist sights without the possibility of ever getting lost. How cool is that?
